CBSG Japan
In 1972, CBSG (Captive Breeding Specialist Group) had been established as a group with zoo people in USA and England for species survival of rare animals at zoos. At the annual meeting in 1996, the purpose was changed as not only ex situ conservation but also in situ conservation, and wildlife researchers also joined. In addition, the 'C' of CBSG was changed as 'C' for Conservation instead of Captive. Now CBSG is one of the members of Species Survival Committee (SSC) and there are 800 members in 78 countries.

The establishment of CBSG Japan In 1992, CBSG India was established and the regional network activities have been active, and CBSG Indonesia, Mesoamerica (Costa Rica), Mexico, Egypt were also established. On February 1997, CBSG Japan was established and CBSG Sri Lanka, South Asia was also established after that.

CBSG Japan has four purposes as follows:
1. Keeping contact with CBSG headquarters and cooperation with regional groups
2. Investigation of current wildlife habitation of Asia included Japan, development of conservation plan suitable for local area, and action based on the plan
3. Environmental education for local people
4. Preparation of local network, exchanging the information of conservation activities of local rare animals, and cooperation for activities.
